How to Configure Your Motor:
1. Select Your Steering & Throttle Option
Choose the control style that fits your seating position and hull layout:
-
Standard Short Tiller: Compact for seating positions close to the motor.
-
Long Tiller / Extension Tiller: Extended reach for comfortable seating further forward.
-
Remote Throttle + Dual-Line Rope Control: Allows full motor control from a center seat that is too distant from the motor for a tiller solution. Provides remote steering with two lines for control. Pulling both lines together raises and lowers the motor from your natural seating position. The remote throttle provides forward and reverse speeds and safety key is in the center of the throttle knob for immediate access if needed.
-
Fixed-Pivot / Rudder-Steered Mode: Lock the motor drive in a forward-facing position and use a single lift line for remote tilt while steering with your primary rudder.

Step 2: Choose Your Mounting System
Option: Traditional Transom Clamp
-
Ideal for quick attachment on standard tenders and dinghies.
-
Requires no drilling or permanent modification to the transom.
Option: Integrated Baseplate Mount
Several optional mounts fit our compact baseplate that through-bolts to your transom and locks with a quick-release mounting pin.
-
Maximum Security & Alignment: Eliminates mount slippage, ensuring your motor returns to the exact same position every time—essential for reliable remote rope steering.
-
Multi-Boat Versatility: Install extra baseplates on secondary craft to swap your motor between boats in seconds.
- Options are shown below:
- The compact baseplate is a more rugged and lighter weight option for normal transoms and it makes the motor shorter than is needed with a clamp-on setup.
- The extended baseplate is for sailboats and salmon trolling when using a compact fishing skiff.
- The fishing kayak mount is for kayaks stable enough to be powered.
Note: If you plan to use your motor with a clamp on one boat and a baseplate on another, switching between mount styles takes just minutes by removing the pivot bolt and locking pin.

Step 3: Measure Dimension R & Select Your Shaft Length
Your Dimension R value determines your ideal motor shaft length. Calculate R based on your chosen mount type:
| Mounting Type | How to Calculate Dimension R | Key Benefit |
| Traditional Clamp | Waterline to top of transom + 4” | Standard clamp-on installation |
| Compact Baseplate | Waterline to top of transom (add 0”) | Saves 4” of length & reduces system weight to 11.4 lbs |
| Extended Baseplate | Waterline to baseplate mounting height | Kept abaft of transom; 100% clear of traveler lines |
| Fishing Kayak Deck | Waterline to deck surface + 4” | Custom elevation for fishing kayak hulls |
Selecting Your Shaft Size:
Match your calculated R value to the shaft sizes below:
-
Shaft Size A: Covers R values from 7” to 12” (Ultra-compact, outdrive-style setups)
-
Shaft Size B: Covers R values from 12” to 17”
- Shaft size C: Covers R values from 17″ to 22″
- Shaft size D: Covers R values from 22″ to 27″
Example Calculation:
This boat’s transom sits 11” above the waterline:
-
With a Traditional Clamp, R = 11” + 4” = 15”, Select Size B (Total System Weight: 14 lbs).
-
With a Compact Baseplate, R = 11”, Select Size A (Total System Weight: 11.4 lbs).

Controller Voltage Protection Notice:
EP Carry controllers operate within a 20V to 43V window. While standard nominal 36V batteries are supported, never connect batteries rated above 36V nominal. Fully charged battery voltages are often much higher than the nameplate value. Input voltages exceeding 43V will cause controller damage.
