This kit boosts a 12V battery voltage up to 24V so you can have full power performance from 12V batteries. Works with all EP Carry motors shipped since 2017.
Motors with the latest firmware update (Gen 2) will operate from 12V portable power centers that can provide 10A without this kit, but only at ~ 1/3 of max power. This kit allows all EP Carry motors, regardless of age, to operate at full power from a 12V battery that can provide up to 23A of current.
12V batteries are more common, provide power for your other gear, and are generally less expensive than higher voltage battery formats. Here are some examples of 12V LFP (LiFePO4) batteries on a 14′ camp cruiser weighing 800 lb traveling at 4.8 mph at full throttle.
– A 14-lb, 50Ah LFP battery provides 11 miles of full throttle range- Typical discount battery price is $99.00.
– A 23 lb, 100Ah LFP battery provides 22 miles of full throttle range- Typical discount battery price is $150.
– A 51 lb, 200Ah LFP battery provides 44 miles of full throttle range- Typical discount battery price is $300.
Kit comes assembled with an efficient waterproof 12V converter, a 3-ft snap lock power cord. Converter should be mounted to a surface with free flow of air for cooling. Converter efficiency is over 95%.
Note that this kit will draw up to 23 Amps from a 12V source. Make sure that your battery or power center is rated to provide this level of current before use. This kit also draws some low level of power from your 12V source even when not using the motor so it is important to disconnect this kit from a 12V battery between boating trips.
